On February 13, 2021, I, Atipa, was vaccinated for the second time with the mRNA vaccine from Moderna. The side effects were in line with the experiences mentioned in the studies. In a few days there is a given probability of about 94%, that I probably will not get a serious COVID-19 case, should I get infected.
Goals of drug companies concerning immunity
When drug companies develop vaccines they strive to achieve two kinds of immunities, among other things – the effective immunity and the sterilizing immunity. Sterilizing immunity is a complete protection from a virus – no virus particles can get into any cell in the body, it cannot replicate and transmission can be stopped.
Was Moderna able to achieve both immunity goals?
Unfortunately, in contrast to the BioNTECH / PFIZER vaccine, which has a 80-90% sterilizing immunity, no sterilizing immunity has yet been stated with the Moderna vaccine, which in turn means that we have to assume that the chain of infection cannot be broken with this vaccine. So it will take longer to achieve herd immunity at the society level, as the virus can multiply in the nasal mucous membranes of infected people. A virus transmission to other people is therefore still possible in principle.
What’s next for Moderna?
Future studies will show whether Moderna has succeeded in modifying its vaccine, so that it also has a good effect on sterilizing immunity and whether it is also safe concerning adverse effects on the long term.
What does that mean to you as a customer?
Nothing, I will still have to wear my mask during the massage and I have to adhere to the general corona measures.
My recommendation to you?
However, if you have a choice regarding the vaccine, so BioNTECH / PFIZER vaccine would probably be the best choice after all. But be careful, don’t wait for your favorite vaccine, this tactic could be deadly. To save lives, I recommend my friends, that we all should accept and use any Swissmedic approved vaccine that is available.
